The Feather M13 Turbo is an NVMe SSD designed for select Apple machines from Mid 2015 to Early 2019. Please review the full compatibility list below to check and see if the M13 Turbo is the right drive for you. Take Flight!
The M13 Turbo takes all the ingenuity of the M13 and cranks it to 11. With speeds tested up to 3100/2700MBps Read/Write, the Turbo truly elevates your Apple machine to new heights.
Feather M13 Turbo utilizes the latest and best in PCIe NVMe technology, without breaking the bank. And we're constantly improving our designs, so you can always be on the cutting edge.
Feather was designed to be installed exactly like an Apple SSD. Simply open up your MacBook, install the new drive, and you're good to go! Want more than that? We have step-by-step instructions for installation available here.
All Fledging drives are assembled in Birmingham, Alabama, and are backed by a 3-year warranty.
Okay, so an SSD isn't very personable, but we sure are! Don't hesitate to reach out to our support team with any questions, technical issues, or sick bird memes you have.
Please do not use your machine's model number to determine the right drive for you. The EMC number is much more accurate in identifying your machines SSD form factor.
The EMC number can be found on the underside of most Apple machines, and comes immediately after the model number.
Please do not use Turbo on any machine other than the models listed here.
Using Turbo on other models can lead to adverse performance and may void your warranty.
Dimensions: 3.5 x 0.9 x 0.1 inches
Weight: 0.96 ounces
Apple machines require a firmware update (boot ROM version) to detect NVMe SSDs.
Performing an install/upgrade to at least High Sierra 10.13. 1 prior to installing the M13 Turbo will update the necessary firmware.
If you do not have a functioning drive to perform this update, we have installation kits for rent available here.
iMac Models 14,1 14,3 14,4 and 15,1 are capped at 700MB/s
- The Feather M13 Turbo is not an Apple OEM drive

- Warranty is void if the barcode label on the drive is tampered with or removed
- Drive appearance may vary from photo, as we are always improving our designs
Purchased a 2015 iMac 21.5" 4K with a fusion drive to ensure I had a blade and SATA connection. Regretted that decision after first boot. Suffered through slow boots and application launches for 3+ years.
Ordered a Feather M13 on Tuesday. It was delivered Thursday.
The old fusion drive took FOREVER to clone. It took about 90 minutes to install the drive and reassemble the iMac. I could tell things were going to be good when the process of cloning back to the blade took half as long. The first boot was kind of like driving through a small town, if you blink, you might miss it.
Thank you Fledging.
A bit more then a month has passed since i installed my M13 in my MacBook Pro and my Feather SSD is still stable and fast, working without any glitch.
Just to say a massive thanks to Fledging for an excellent product and great support! I needed to increase the flash storage in my 27” 5K iMac to 2tb from the miserly 256gb apple ssd that came with it. Max and Steven were prompt in helping me be sure of the product I needed, and shipped it to a friend who was visiting the US on business.(I live in the U.K.).It’s been successfully installed and I have the storage I need, and fast too. Fledging threw in a free Mojave install on a usb, and were reassuring of the warranty support to me even so far away. Will definitely use again, or recommend in the future.Thank you.
This product worked exactly as expected. And, as the original product from another vendor did not, this product came with easy to understand instructions. Since this was going into an older MB Air I did not know the firmware had to be 10.13 prior to installing the drive. The kit came in handy since I did not want to delete the customers data in order to get the 10.13 firmware updated. I was able to use the drive from the kit to do the 10.13 update and preserve my customers data! Once 10.13 was installed I installed the new 1TB SSD and the new OSX install and data migration from time machine back work as expected.
I have the Feather M13 installed for a few days now in my Late 2013 MBP and it works perfect. I had an original 256GB Samsung SSD which came with my MBP and made a backup of it. After that, I restored Mac OS with Carbon Copy Cloner (kept the HFS+ formatting), resized partition with Disk Utility and made room for Winblowzzz 10 and restored ithat one back with Winclone. I used those terminal commands for Trim and Hibernate / sleep and reset SMC and PRAM. All is good now , more room and better read / write speeds.
After researching for an SSD upgrade and reviewing my options, I narrowed them down to Fledging, OWC, Transcend or an OEM Samsung replacement. The criteria was to find a cost effective and reliable solution with sufficient product support.
Common concerns with most of the none OEM products are thermal issues while in operation and problems when trying to set up the operating system. After corresponding over email to Fledging support about these concerns, I was reassured this would be an unlikely occurance and for further peace of mind, an Adata XPG heatsink could be applied to the SSD to better manage any heat generated. They also explained that the cause of the increased temperature relates to the significant increase in read/write speeds over OEM.
The order was placed directly with Fledging and the M13 kit was recieved approx five days later (I am based in the UK.) I was continually updated via email on the transportion progress.
The upgrade itself was straight forward, first reviewing the instructions on Fledging's Support page and watching a tutorial video on youtube.
The MBP was first backed up using time machine on an external HDD. The screws required more torque than expected to overcome the dried threadlocking compound but this wasn't an issue. The SSD swapped out easily enough and I ensured the M13 was fully engaged with a "click". Booting up for the first time holding the alt (option) key and selected to boot from the Time Machine external HDD completely problem-free.
The M13 has been running two days now, approx 20 hours, without a hitch. I haven't performed any benchmark testing but the drive feels as rapid if not slightly faster than OEM.
The support from the Fledging team has been flawless and I cannot recommend this product enough.
The best bro!
My upgraded iMac is fast and is running smoothly. The installation could not have been easier. The plug and play M-13 PCIe saved me from having to upgrade. My 2013 iMac will be good for quite a few more years. Thank you Fledging.
I was so pleased to be able to find a good quality upgrade for my Mid 2015 Macbook Pro. I looked at other options (Aura from OWC, and a few others), but ended up landing on Feather SSD because they were hundreds of dollars cheaper. They were very helpful in their phone support pre-purchase. Also, the install is quite straightforward. I did have slight difficulty getting the new drive to seat into the socket, but after talking to tech support I realized I could just use the two screwdrivers supplied to push in on the adapter itself. When I did this the drive seated completely with no problems. I love the fact that High Sierra is pre-installed. Just turn your computer back on and start the migration from your Time Machine backup. Speeds of this drive are amazing faster than my Apple 1 TB SSD. With my Apple drive I was getting 529MB/s write and 1840MB/s read. With the 2TB SSD I am now getting an amazing 2,400MB/s write and 1,996MB/s read! I've had the drive installed for two weeks now with absolutely no issues! I'm recommending this to everyone I know who needs and SSD upgrade for their mac!
